Historical city

Córdoba was a Romans set up city to be used as a navigational point as it lies on River Rio Guadalquivar. The city fell to the Christian Re-conquest hands in the year 1236 who added on splendid architectural designs to match the Mezquita’s beauty before turning it into a majestic Cathedral.

The Jews left their influence at Córdoba at its ancient quarters through its elaborate labyrinth of winding narrow cobbled streets. There are picturesque squares with beautiful shady patios and courtyards which were lined with a variety of flowers.

Town attractions

There is an annual competition for the most beautiful courtyard in May that is undertaken by the locals. This is part of the tradition of decorating patios and courtyards with fresh flowers especially those in bloom. The public gets to feast on these delightfully decorated patios and courtyards before voting for the best.

Visitors would enjoy the numerous natural landscapes around Córdoba; one of them is the Alcazar Reyes gardens which used to be an ancient palace. The local museum of Vivo de Al-Andalus showcases a plethora of interesting Roman artifacts and architectural delights. The museum is excellent in helping visitors to Córdoba understand its history and beauty.

One would enjoy the great view at the top of the Vivo de Al-Andalus museum with a challenge on the climb to the tower. Besides the majestic view of Cordoba, one can enjoy two ancient Arabic water mills although only one is functional with a restored waterwheel.

The Vivo museum is an archeological museum that houses interesting historical artifacts around the Spanish region with lots of fantastic stories. This ancient Renaissance palace was transformed to be a local museum where entrance is free for European citizens.
