Spain is one of the countries in the world which is very diverse. There are so many attractions in Spain to look forward to when in the country that your expectations will be superseded. Spain has some island destinations in the Atlantic as well as the Mediterranean Sea. The island destinations are the Balearics and the Canary Islands. The Canary Islands are a favourite among tourists with wonderful regions to visit as well as some very amazing beaches. Let us look at some of the islands to visit.

The Canary Islands are situated northwest, off Africa’s coast. Islands in the canary are mainly volcanic. They islands are a chain and are Spain’s territory. The island lies about 100 km from morocco and Western Sahara borders. The chain is made up of seven islands, one minor one as well as a number of islets.

We will concentrate on the seven major ones. The first island is Grand Canaria. Among the seven, it ranks as third in size. It is often referred to as a continent in miniature because of the natural beauty it possesses. It has some beautiful white sandy beaches with the longest beach being Playa del Ingles. Nightlife and water sports such as scuba diving are major attractions.

Fuerteventura is yet another island which attracts a lot of tourists. The famous activities in the area are kite surfing as well as windsurfing. Sometimes the area is referred to as windsurfers Mecca. The island is volcanic in nature.

Lanzaroteis an amazing volcanic island with some very interesting features. There is even an airport in the island making it very easy to access from many regions. There are museums, beaches where water sports like snorkelling, scuba diving, windsurfing and parasailing take place. The cuisine is also as amazing including Italian dishes and cheep beer.

Tenerife is yet another island. It is the largest among the seven major ones. Its most popular features are nightlife, water sports, beaches and parks.

El Hierro is smallest. The environment is quite calm making it a special place to relax. It has been listed as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO.

LA Gomera is second smallest among the seven. Attractions in the island are waterfalls and Garajonay national park.

La Palma is very near the morocco borders and is often referred to as La Isla Bonita. It has volcanic landscapes with the highest point being 2464 meters. All the islands in the canary are perfect places for holiday.
